04 – 14 SEPTEMBER 2017
Retreat Giver: Serena Quartermaine Hutton, a retired Anglican priest in Oxford diocese
Catholic Chaplain: Rev.Monsignor Canon Timothy Menezes, STB, SLL, Vicar General, Archdiocese of Birmingham
Since 1995, our first year, RBD has organised four retreats at the Jesuit retreat
house of Santo Ignacio, Colares, close to the royal palaces of Sintra, favoured by
the Portuguese royal family as a refuge from Lisbon. Our retreatants have
always greatly enjoyed Portugal and its people.
Our 2017 retreat will be held in this beautiful Jesuit house in the far north of Portugal, a comfortingly long way from the Algarve.
Gifted to the Jesuits by the second Viscountess da Torre in the 1950ís and used as the novitiate for the province, the house was totally refurbished in the 1980s and now serves as a retreat house and cultural centre, with 88 rooms, 12 meeting rooms and an auditorium holding 120, as well as chapels and beautiful grounds.
Soutelo is about 12 kilometres north of Braga and about 80 km. north of Porto.
Staying for our last three nights in Porto, exploring the second city of Portugal, with trip on the River Douro.
Portugal, Englandís oldest ally since 1373, was born in the North. Here is the essence of Portugal, among the churches, monasteries, sanctuaries, museums, castles, gardens and the famous Port wines.
